It comes from a location that for decades now prohibits mineral collecting. The specimen comes from the stock of a now deceased mineral dealer who field collected these back in the day. The specimen features undamaged crystals standing on a larger crystal section and matrix. All of the crystals have smoky color zoning. The largest crystal measures 19 mm. These are specimens of quartz crystals that have minor green coloration and are often associated with purple fluorite, hematite and sulfide minerals. In this case pyrite. The green color is caused by another mineral, hedenbergite. There are tiny inclusions in the quartz crystals that are the source of the color. The crystals on this specimen are terminated and measure up to 6 mm.
